(Mr. Blaichman)So with his partners, Jay-Z and Abram and Scott Shnay, he envisioned a hotel with a pool, gym, spa and multiple restaurants under a brand called J Hotels. But since his mortgage brokers started shopping in late summer for roughly $200 million in financing, they have only one serious prospect for a lender.
“That rug has been pulled out from under their feet,” said David Johnson, a real estate broker with Eastern Consolidated who was involved with selling the site for the proposed hotel to Mr. Blaichman, Jay-Z and their business partners for $66 million, which included the property and adjoining air rights. Mr. Johnson said that because many banks are not lending, the only option for many developers is to take on debt from less traditional lenders like foreign investors or private equity firms that charge interest rates as high as 20 percent.

Via Mouthpiece Sports and And One, ESPN The Magazine reports that LeBron James and O'Shea 'Ice Cube' Jackson are teaming up to produce an ABC pilot based on The King's life as a high school basketball stud.
The series, described as "Friday Night Lights-meets-Entourage," will follow an inner-city 15 year-old prep star who is transplanted to a small town school and forced to come of age while dealing with media pressure, unscrupulous moneymen and the jealousy of his peers. [...]
"It's a grounded character study of teenage life in small town America, but it’s also an exploration of the American Dream and the wish-fulfillment aspect of what his life has become," said Matt Alvarez, President of CubeVision, who pitched the concept and is also an executive producer on the show."
Fortunately, the only television I watch these days is NBA games, "The Office" and "Summer Heights High," so that "Friday Night Lights-meets-Entourage" comparison really doesn't do much for me. But hey, "Friday Night Lights" is good, right? I enjoyed the movie. "Ya'll want to win put Boobie in." Dramatic stuff.
Anyway, the LeBron-inspired pilot script should be finished shortly so, if ABC approves it, production on the show could begin as early as this spring, with a possible fall '09 premiere.
MORE PACKAGES IN 2009
Over the weekend some info leaked onto the Net about the possibility of more packages from Jordan Brand in 2009. We can confirm that there are definitely PLANS to release several packs in 2009. After building with some of our retail partners, there is a planned package of 5s (two Vs in one package), a package of VIIs (two VIIs in one pacakge), and a Slam Dunk Package that will feature a II and a III. Colorways are still TBA on all three of those packages. In addition to these three packages, there are some unconfirmed packs that may include a Hall of Fame Package and a couple of 3 packages (two IIIs in one package).
The biggest gripes with the Countdown Packages were their price and the fact that one sneaker was clearly better than the other in several packs. Word has it that both sneakers in these upcoming packs should be favorable. As for a price, that's still TBA.
Of course anything can change at the drop of the dime so expect much more info in 2009.

Eminem has once again teamed up with Nike’s Jordan Brand, this time to celebrate his new book “The Way I Am.” The new limited edition shoe will be available exclusively on the official Jordan Brand “Fight Club” website starting December 18th at 7pm (eastern). The new Eminem “Retro 2″ Jordan shoe are currently planned to sell for $110 and will come with limited-edition Air Jordan t-shirt.
